ICI Cooperation perspectives 2020

Starting from the beginning of the next year in the framework of interinstitutional cooperation instrument (ICI), the State Agency of Environment Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic together with the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) plan to continue joint project activities (KGZ-Water).

Cooperation of environmental institutions of both countries has reliable and long-term history built-up amicable and effective relationships.

New phase of the next KGZ-Water Project will be aimed at such result areas as: deepening and extension of surface water quality monitoring in the Kyrgyz Republic covering southern region of the country; capacity building of regional environmental laboratories, particularly SAEPF’s Lab in Osh city; as well as upgrading of environmental data management system (surface water quality).

In order to discuss details of cooperation and technical assessment of environmental laboratories status, mission of SYKE experts to Kyrgyzstan took place from July 1 till July 5, 2019. SYKE experts have visited Territorial SAEPF’s subdivisions in Issyk-Kul, Naryn and Osh Provinces (Oblasts) of the Kyrgyz Republic and discussed planned activities with administration and personnel involved into environmental monitoring process. Additionally meeting with prospective Project’s counterparts – OSCE Programme office in Bishkek and Regional Aarhus centers, which could participate in awareness raising and information distribution about Project, have been organized within the mission.

On July 5, 2019, SYKE experts have met with Mr. Abdykalyk Rustamov – SAEPF’s Director. The main goal of meeting was exchange of opinions related capacity building and technical assistance needs required for environmental laboratories of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as discussion of following steps to be implemented for timely development of Project document and following Project launching in 2020.
