Mission of MFA of Finland, Issyk-Kul, March 2019

On March, 27, 2019 the representatives of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland within the mission to Issyk-Kul province have visited Issyk-Kul Territorial Administration (IKTA) of the State Agency of Environment Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (SAEPF). In the structure of SAEPF, IKTA was one of the main partners of ICI projects implemented under the Programme for Finland’s Water Sector Support to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan (FinWaterWEI II) under support of the Government of Finland.


The main visit’s goal was review of ICI Projects results successfully completed in 2018, as well as discussion of that how achieved results contributed to the capacity building of environmental laboratory (Environment Monitoring Unit IKTA SAEPF) and the probable perspectives of following cooperation.

The Programme of visit consisted of introductory presentation and observation excursion in Laboratory. Within excursion a demonstration of ‘projects deliverables’ such as software DigiLab (Laboratory Information Management System); QC/QA system, introduction of which was the leading factor for Laboratory accreditation in accordance with ISO 17025; and operation of Gas Chromatograph with assistance of which the laboratory has introduced the method of POPs (persistent organic pollutants) analyses in the samples of water, soil and sediments.

In addition, for the MFAF representatives, the brief meeting with Issyk-Kul Aarhus Center was organized. The Aarhus Centers were one of the main ICI Projects partners in terms of awareness raising and information distribution on environmental matters among all stakeholders. Currently Aarhus Centers continue their active cooperation with SAEPF on the issues associated with fulfillment of the Arhus Convention obligations undertaken by the country.
