Project manager mission to Kyrgyzstan, May 2018

From May 16 till May 23, 2018 the Project manager mission to Kyrgyzstan took place. One of the mission’s tasks was organization and supervision of Interlaboratory Comparisons among three water laboratories (Bishkek and Cholpon-Ata laboratories of SAEPF and Kyrgyzhydromet Laboratory) in order to increase their capacity in terms of quality control/quality assurance.


Additionally,  Mr. Ari Mäkelä - project manager has delivered proftest samples to Bishkek for Hydromet’s laboratory. Hydromet  - one of the main Project’s partners is participating in international proftest organized by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

On May 17-18, 2018 Project’s representatives have visited SAEPF’s Issyk-Kul territorial Administration, including Laboratory and order to discuss plans related to upcoming Issyk-Kul lake monitoring in June (before recreation season) and organization of on-job training on water samples preparation for oil hydrocarbons analyses. Also meeting with Mr. Irlan Suumbaev -  recently appointed Director general of Biosphere territory Issyk-Kul has been organized for discussion of future cooperation issues.

On May 21, 2018 Mr. Ari Mäkelä  took part in workshop “Environmental data for decision-making” organized under support of UNDP-GEF project “ Strengthening of institutional and legal capacities to enable improvement of the national monitoring system and management of environmental information”. The main Workshop goal was discussion and consideration of issues related to use of official opened environmental data for environmentally sound decision-making and adaptation to climate change.

Earlier, such global environmental challenges as biodiversity conservation, combat to desertification and sustainable nature management, including water resources in the context of changing climate have been considered at the meeting of interinstitutional working group on   development of integrated  environmental information monitoring and management system (EIMMS) – Kerege. At this meeting among other issues, the importance of High Level Conference "From Paris to Bishkek" on the way of climate-resilient sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan" organized and carried out in 2016 was underlined. Mr. Vladimir Grebnev, UNDP -GEF Project manager has mentioned that High Level Climate Conference was the starting point for country’s initiatives associated with climate change adaptation.
